Update on the Cobb Road House:

It has taken a long while but we are finally nearing completion of the renovations to the Dorrie O Brien house into use as office and meeting space. Dorrie was a board member and long time friend of the land trust in particular and environment in general. Dorrie bequeathed her home on Cobb Road in Brewster to the land trust and we have been working ever since on renovations. Many, many individuals and businesses have generously donated their time and resources to help us and that generosity will be noted in our next newsletter. The PCLT board is grateful to Assemblyman Willis Stephens and Senator Vincent Leibell, who have sponsored two New York State Grants to help us complete the work.

We have received a ten thousand dollar grant through Assemblyman Stephens efforts to furnish the, library and meeting rooms of the house and a twenty five thousand dollar grant through the efforts of Senator Leibell to complete the interior construction work. To date the building interior is almost completely renewed with sill replacements, new floor supports, new insulation to meet current codes, sheetrock, trim, etc. Finished floors are next with final work scheduled for October and November. The Grand Opening of the house will take place in March, 2007.

“ When we started this project, the board was firmly committed to the concept that monies for this renovation would not come from land trust membership funds and PCLT fund raising,” said board President, Judy Terlizzi. “These grants have helped us to keep to that guideline and we are most grateful for their support,” she concluded.
