“It is important for us to maintain
each preserves’ individual origin, history and identity. Grouping
will not dilute that” - Judy Terlizzi The Sterling Farm, Luschinsky and Turtle
Pond Preserves in Patterson have been grouped together and re-named
the Laurel Ledges Natural Area.
The three preserves are contiguous, sharing common boundaries, and
by grouping them together under a single name we intend to offer greater
definition for the whole. The
Laurel Ledges Natural Area joins Peach Lake Natural Area and the
Ice Pond Conservation Area as grouped
preserves, each of which
totals close to or more than 100-acres. “It is important for
us to maintain each preserves’ individual origin, history and
identity. Grouping will not dilute that” according to board
president, Judy Terlizzi, “it provides emphasis.”
The Laurel Ledges Natural Area is accessible from Couch Road in
Patterson and the trail from Sterling Farm leads back into the Luschinsky
Preserve and overlooks Turtle Pond. Future plans call for the construction
of a trail to the edge of Turtle Pond and out to Cornwall Hill Road.
